GORGG 2009, Hotel & Travel Information

The site for GORGG 2009 New York is the Norwalk Inn & Conference Center at 99 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut, 06851-5001.

While Norwalk is a bit outside New York City, it is right on the Metro-North railroad line. The hotel is close to Interstate 95 and is easily accessible by car. Parking is free. Commuter trains run regularly and will bring you right in to New York's Grand Central Station in the heart of Manhattan.

All rooms are US$110.88 per night ($99 + 12% tax). The price includes full breakfast on weekdays. Rooms have either one King-size or two Queen-size beds.
There is free wireless internet throughout the hotel, and a 24/7 fitness center with Nautilus equipment, sauna, and steam bath. 24/7 Guest laundry service is available.

Each room has a refrigerator with complimentary bottled water, full size irons and ironing boards, coffee makers, radio alarm clocks, and hairdryers. In addition to the wi-fi service there are data port telephones with voice mail in each room. USA Today is delivered weekday mornings.

It is probably best to make your reservation by telephone. The toll-free number is (800) 303-0808 (for those outside the toll-free area, (203) 838-2000 voice, (203) 855-9722 Fax)). You can call in your reservations at any time before September 21. Be sure to mention GORGG when you do so to get our rate.

You can make reservations via the hotel's web site, but again, BE SURE to indicate you are attending "GORGG" in the "Special Requirements" field.
The City of Norwalk itself has many attractions for GORGG-goers, which will be posted here in coming days.

 Travel info

Bus service From JFK and LaGuardia to Grand Central Station
Bus service From Newark to Grand Central Station
Metro-North rail line between NYC and East Norwalk

To get from the hotel back to the airport, the earliest train from Norwalk departs at 5:33 am and gets to Grand Central at 6:42 am. From there, the bus to LaGuardia should get you to that airport by about 7:40 am. To JFK, you should get there about 8:15 am. To Newark, about 7:50 am. Considering that many say one should be at the airport about 2-3 hours ahead of one's flights ... make your return air reservations accordingly.

Those of you flying to the US from the "visa waiver" countries must fill out the on-line forms at:
https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html
before travelling to the US. You have to make a separate application for each one travelling. The site is set up in many languages to make the application easier.

To do so you'll need the address of the hotel -- which is at the top of this page.

The Caviar Option
While, it seems, the cheapest way between the New York area airports and Norwalk is the above bus+train option, there is a higher-priced option: Connecticut Limousine. Their web site is at http://www.ctlimo.com/. This more expensive ($64 one-way from La Guardia; $85 one-way from Newark), but will likely take you directly between the sites, so for some it might be a simpler option.
