Glen Says:

:"Deridan", for me, was an experiment in recording music that rang more truly to me than anything I'd previously recorded. Definitely not Top-40 material. This is the first recording I've done of my own material using my hard-disk 24-track recorder and Shure Beta-58A mic. Everything stemmed from the intro, which sprang into my head while watching a pivotal moment of the "Grace of My Heart" movie. If you were to say I was influenced by Brian Wilson and/or Todd Rundgren on this one, I'd be hard-pressed to say anything otherwise. If you said this doesn't sound like Gentle Giant, again...

Lyrics

I phoned your number past too many years
They said you weren't around, they didn't know just where you'd gone
I found you mainly by your track of tears
Surprised to see my face, yours was pure a minute too long
But now it's returned to what you want all to see
A perfect image culled through study and intensity
And though you insist you're just fine
Why is it that you always look so sad?
You're dreaming of the life you never had
It drives you crazy

You say you have it all, but there is more
That you can't write in words, you can't foresee a muse's kiss
Past the mundane goals they ask you for
Lies a world so true, you've forgotten it exists
I always did love you, I... I thought you should know
But I see you only care for yourself, so I'll let it go
Still it unnerves me to find
It seems that you've aged so beyond your years
Have you become a slave to all your fears?
I'm sorry, baby

Wait a minute now,
I just can't stand the thought of leaving you behind
No matter how bad your mind has become
I can still remember when you had me under your spell
And the funny thing -
And the funny thing is that everything is still within your reach
It's just being hidden by the ones who never understood you from the start
They talk to you in code
They talk to you in language you just can't understand
Cause deep down inside you know where your heart has always been

You know that's why you always look so sad
Well, forget about what they say
Don't you remember how good you used to feel
Back when money didn't mean a thing
It was living for the sake of love and beauty
And for all the top forty reasons you now claim
There's another thousand that refuse to die
Shouldn't that be telling you something?
Shouldn't that tell you I'm right?

You know that you have never stopped to see
But now it's clear you're listening to me
So why don't you just open up and be?
