The
work emerges gradually from an eternal space, slowly builds opposing sound
masses into a rigid and mechanistic section, and dissolves back into the
same eternal space. The middle section accompaniment returns in the
closing section and then disintegrates, leading to a codetta where the
main theme emerges to be heard clearly for the first time. Its main theme
is derived from the first four notes of the vocal line in Gentle Giant's
Edge of Twilight |
